PHILIPPINE LEAGUE AGAINST EPILEPSY
4th National Epilepsy Congress
1 Aug 2007
This September 2 – 9, 2007 we will again be celebrating the National Epilepsy Awareness Week. This year we have decided that the theme would be “Epilepsy Ko, Sagot Ko ‘To.” This is in keeping with our desire that persons with epilepsy will gain the confidence not only to “come out of the shadows” and be recognized, but that they may also aspire to become functionally independent. This theme is also in tandem with the main thrust of the Epilepsy Awareness and Advocacy, Inc. (EAAI) which is to strengthen the membership of the individual chapters.
We will be having two main activities this year:
1. The Search for the National Epilepsy Idol.
This is a project in tandem with the EAAI. This is a nationwide search for a patient [one adult (at least 16 years old) and one child (15 years old or younger)], who is gifted with the talent in singing. Each of the thirteen (13) EAAI chapters will organize a registration and audition for all who are interested. The participant will be asked to register with the nearest local EAAI chapter which will be conducting the eliminations. The finalists will be sent to Manila for the Grand Finals on September 2, 2007 at 7:00 – 10:00PM. A cash prize of Php 10,000.00 and a trophy await the winners! We guarantee this will be a big showbiz event.
2. Launching of the Epilepsy Partner Program featuring the MD Chefs on Display
Many of our patients with epilepsy are indigent and are in dire need of funds to purchase their medications. Because we at PLAE realize this need, we are launching this fund raising project that aims to provide temporary assistance (medications) which will allow the patient to be functionally independent – in school or at work.
A small amount from you will make a big difference.
This project will be launched on September 7, 2007 at the Christ the King Reception Hall in Green Meadows Avenue Ortigas. It will be a very a special evening of gastronomic delights! Sample our special Filipino and International Cuisine prepared by no other than our very own chefs at PLAE!
Of course, we will be having our regular program of activities: the press conference with Health Forum, the different RTDs and Lay Symposia in the different regions and training institutions. This year, as always, we are again counting on your full support to make this week a fruitful one.
